The Constitution, let us investigate political repression

The Constitution, let us investigate political repression The Socialists presented their Constitution as a manifesto not only in the service of consolidating the constitutional order, but also with the claim that they were carrying out the foundational act of the Albanians' second independence. To illustrate this predisposition to amplify the event, the Chairman of the Constitutional Assembly, Skënder Gjinushi, declared to voters in the referendum that “22 November will be the day of our second national Independence”. According to his formulation, this constitution, favored by Meksi, Berberi, Milo, Koçi, Klosi, etc., can be called nothing other than a national and all-encompassing constitution. In reality, everything that is happening after the referendum on this constitution resembles a backward act of political inquisition, processes of denigration and marginalization of the opposition, as well as the preparation of such a spirit of political and institutional punishment for anyone who did not take part, abstained, or voted against it. In the case of the new constitution, the referendum’s 25 June has been replaced by 22 November, the punishment of the “Berishists” by the punishment of the “unconstitutional,” exile by administrative self-restraint, and the “court of the people” by the court of propaganda. One observes a contemptuous zeal, a criminalizing minority, and a political logic of revenge that aims to sanction the division of citizens into “constitutional” and “unconstitutional,” just as until yesterday they were divided into “patriots” and “traitors.” It is no coincidence that especially the press close to power and those who control state media have been at the forefront of such denigrating language. Through this stigmatization, the aim is to create a moralizing climate that would justify the political and administrative exclusion of opponents. This is in open contradiction with the democratic spirit and with pluralism. Instead of serving as a basis for reconciliation and political coexistence, the constitution is being turned into an instrument of labeling and pressure. This development validates every concern of the opposition about the way this text was conceived and used. The constitution cannot be either the alibi of a temporary majority or the banner for legitimizing political repression against the opponent.

The government protects Azem Hajdari’s killers

Today, 81 days since the killing of the leader of December However unreasonable the delay has been, bringing the perpetrators of Azem Hajdari’s murder to justice would, to some extent, calm the cold political climate in the country. The mothers and fathers of the Hajdari family are not waiting at all for compensation for the great wound that was inflicted on them. They want only justice. They want Albanians to be convinced that no one is above the law and that political crime cannot be pardoned through silence, delay, or bargaining. But what has happened so far is the exact opposite. Instead of investigations moving toward the full clarification of the perpetrators and organizers, the impression has been created that the authorities have chosen to protect the killers. Official silence, evasion of responsibility, and the lack of transparency have given this belief heavy public weight. Every day that passes without justice increases citizens' doubt, anger, and despair even more. For the opposition and for every honest person, the case of Azem Hajdari remains the gravest test of the Albanian state in the face of political crime. If this test fails, then not only trust in justice is damaged, but also the very idea of the rule of law. Today, 81 days after the killing of the leader of December, the call for justice is not merely a family or political demand; it is a moral and national obligation.
